The responsibilities of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization are determined according to the statute of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization which issued by the Royal Decree No. M / 10 dated 3/3/1392 H, and to the resolutions issued to add other tasks in according with the requirements of WTO.
1. Issuing of the standards for goods and services, which determine the appropriate levels of quality, taking into account the provisions of the Islamic Rules, working to protect consumer, environment and the national market and supporting the national economy.
2. Determining and standardizing the methods of tests, and sampling techniques to ensure the accuracy results.
3. Standardizing the measurement system used in the Saudi Arabia according with the international system (SI) and issuing standards for inspection and testing tools and devices , calibration methods and working to set the standards used in different levels and the application of the scientific, industrial and legal calibrations.
4. Unifying codes to guide producer, trader and the consumer and specifically determining technical terminology and definitions of the concepts and to prevent conflict of meanings used and contribute the efforts of Arabization.
5. Conducting studies and researches to ensure appropriate standards, and find appropriate solutions to various problems of quality.
6. Training of national employees working in various development sectors.
7. Providing new information about standardization and its various activities at the national, regional and international levels for the various concerned parties through the center of information, and answering questions of various concerned parties.
8. Identifying the concerned parties about the activities of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Org, and about appropriate methods to take advantage of them and inform about any new information at the national, regional and international levels.
9. Providing advice to new industries, where it states in industrial licenses need to refer to the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Org for advice in all matters relating to the problems of standardization and quality.
10. To contribute to increase the quality of national products, by licensing the use of a quality mark for products compliance with the Saudi standards, and to support national products through the application of export certificates, in addition to the application of the regulation of laboratory accreditation to ensure the reliability of laboratory results that provide inspection, testing, measurement and calibration. Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Org contribute in customs clearance for goods, including works to ensure compliance with the Saudi standard.
11. Participating in regional and international organizations and to ensure that non-publication is inconsistent with the national interest, and contribute to the support of Arab and international economic cooperation, in particular, to support the integrate with GCC countries.
