A summary of the National measurement and calibration Laboratory (NMCL)

The National Lab for measurement and Calibration (NMCL) was established in 1406 AH (1986 AD) . it is the first reference for measurement and Calibration in the kingdom , The laboratory is responsible for maintaining and keeping

]

 national / reference / secondary and working standards , and enhancing their accuracy whenever required .

]

Calibrating the measurement instruments and standards by the highest level of accuracy for governmental and private agencies as well as GCC member states .

]

preparing and revising the standards and regulations related to measurement and calibration by consultation and cooperation with SASO's different department and the government related agencies and standardization organization in GCC member states .

]

providing support and assistance in the field of measurement and calibration , issuing certificates , issuing quality mark , accreditation as per iso (9001/1702) .

]

Holding programs and seminars for training the individuals connected with measurement and calibratim activities in the kingdom and GCC member states in addition to facilitation the means of obtaining related scientific and technical publications .

]

Participation and assistance in measurement and calibration activities at the national , semi-regional , regional and international level as a representative of the government of Saudi Arabia .

Achievement of the main measurement units in NMCL :

Firest : Physical Calibration Division :

Metre (Length-measuring unit)

it is achieved by using the apparatus of intervening of Taser helium neon accurately ( "2-5 part in 10 " of  laser length) according to the international definition .

kelvin (unit for measuring temperature)

it is achieved by using 2 fixed points according to the international scale for temperature degrees (ITS 90)from merury point at    - 8344, 38oC to silver point at 78,961o C  ( + 0001,0oC to 03,0oC )

Second : mechanical Calibration Division :

Kilogram (mass-measuring unit)

it is achieve by using the front model of the national kilogram (stainless steel ) calibrated by the International Bureau for weights and measurements and having an estimated uncertainty of ( + 15 microgram ).

Third : Electrical Calibration :

The second (time-measuring unit).

it is achieved by using the portable atomic seismic clock (2 parts in 10-12) .

Universal mean time is generated (at SASO) using the atomic seismic clock and comparing it to the time received from satellites determining the locations ( + 2-3 ms) .

The Volt (Voltage-measuring unit)

it is achieved through a group of normal elements and electronic voltage standards based on zener and maintained at a high-constant temperature ( + 2 microvolt ) .

The Ohm (electrical-resistance unit)

it is achieved by using a group of normal resistors of 1 ohm maintained at a high-constant temperature (06.0+ micro ohm).

Customer Supporting Services :

1)

Handling the customs requests for calibration according to " Calibration Request Form " , following up reference of such request to concerned division with in the Lab , revising their status wtil calibration procedures are completed , and notifying customers of all this .

2)

preparing the bills of the calibration casts for customers requests and delivering them directly to the customer or faxing them with fixing the time period that calibration takes , and taking the customer's agreement on such bills before sending the instruments and starting their calibration procedures

3)

Meeting the customers and receiving the instruments to be calibration , and helping them to complete formats of receiving the instruments after inspecting them visually by a technician in concerned section in order to refer them to this section for calibration .

4)

Keeping the instruments before and after calibration at services supporting division for reception or delivery to customer

5)

Delivering the instruments to customer after calibration with calibration certificates or measurement reports of such instruments .

6)

Following up the customers’ complaints and remarks and taking necessary steps for the correction of noncompliance of measurement and calibration.
